Ireland’s media regulator (Coimisiún na Meán) is clashing with Washington over fears of election interference & censorship with their power to issue fines of up to €20 million or up to 6% of turnover to large social media platforms based in Ireland for breaking the EU's online speech codes.

Looks like there's some confusion over the channel message above. Your might either be reading "Late Stage Ireland enabled Direct Messages" or "Late Stage Ireland changed price to 0 stars per message," or a "this message cannot be displayed" warning.

It's a new Telegram feature channels can turn on—the ability to for readers to DM channel admins. You need the latest Telegram update to use it, and there then should be a little DM button in the bottom left. Telegram had it defaulted to cost something like 5 stars per DM but I set it to 0.

A couple of weeks back Telegram launched a new feature where a channel could be auto-translated into a language of a reader's choice but the channel needs three 'boosts' to turn it on. If that is something anyone can and wants to do, they can boost the channel here, no worries if not.

In February, several online accounts reported an attack on a woman in Athlone but a Garda statement denied receiving any reports.

Yesterday, an asylum seeker was arrested at Crooksling IPAS centre at 7am and appeared in court accused of raping a woman in Athlone on 17 February.

You might remember Edel McGinley in her other guise as Director of the Soros-funded Migrant Rights Centre Ireland. She previously took credit for successfully lobbying Government NOT to share details of Pandemic Unemployment Payments across government departments in order to prevent migrants from being recognised in the system and issued deportation orders if they were in the country illegally.

A whistleblower subsequently revealed that millions of euro was being paid out wrongly every week because cross-checks with information held by the Revenue Commissioners were not being done prior to payments being issued.

Social Welfare staff were instructed to approve most claims and check their full validity later. It emerged that hundreds of applicants for the €350 weekly payment have tried to leave the country while still claiming it

A Belfast group being funded to counter the "far-right" online have failed their objective according to Amy Rafferty who was speaking at a Derry meeting hosted by the self-described 'socialist republican' group Lasair Dhearg in March this year.

Rafferty was responding to a question from one of the two dozen audience members asking what could be done to push back against people sharing information and raising concerns about immigration that she didn't agree with on social media.

But Rafferty said she didn't believe countering the dominant narrative online about immigration is possible, adding that she is aware of a Belfast group who are being "quite literally paid" to counter the "far-right" on social media but have failed.

"It doesn't work. It hasn't worked for them so far."

Self-described 'socialist republicans' have backed an alliance with unionists to combat rising nationalism in Ireland at a meeting hosted by Lasair Dhearg during ongoing crisis talks over nationwide objections to huge influxes of migrants.

Held at Creggan's Ráth Mór Centre in Derry, attendees included members of PBP, CATU, 32CSM, 1916 Societies, and Socialist Republicans for Palestine. Speakers were (L-R) Lorcán Ó Duine, Pól Torboid, Amy Rafferty, Pádraig Scott, and Cllr Gary Donnelly.

Donnelly urged moving "outside our comfort zones," noting that some unionist marching bands include black members and were equally opposed to nationalism in Ireland. He also cited 'people of colour' participating in Twelfth celebrations commemorating William III's 1690 Boyne victory to secure control over Ireland as a positive sign.

Amy Rafferty identified unionist areas of Belfast as the most multicultural, adding that there was "a huge portion of people there who want to engage."

Footage has emerged of the Algerian stabbing victim on Eden Quay being treated at the scene. While the video suggests he was stabbed by one or two foreigners, this is currently unconfirmed.

The man stabbed on Eden Quay in Dublin earlier has been identified as an Algerian. It's reported he sustained serious injuries and is being treated in the Mater Hospital after he was stabbed at around 4.30pm close to Rosie Hackett Bridge.

One man has now been arrested.

The shooter in the incident at the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow Town yesterday has been named as Evan Fitzgerald (21).

Fitzgerald appeared before Naas District Court in May, along with two friends, charged with possession of firearms & ammunition. He also faced charges of possessing explosive substances.

It is alleged the trio purchased the firearms on the dark web for shooting in the woods.

It is not believed that the firearms are connected to organised crime, but rather that the three friends had a fascination with firearms.

The case was adjourned until June, with the three being given strict bail conditions.

On Sunday, June 1st, at around 6:15pm, Fitzgerald walked through the Fairgreen Shopping Centre in Carlow Town firing a shotgun into the air.

After a responding Garda unit identified themselves and drew their weapons, Fitzgerald discharged one final shot self-inflicting a fatal wound.

A nine-year-old girl fleeing scene suffered a minor leg injury when she fell.
